2011
- Receive funding for, write and begin filming a one-hour training video about sharps containers and health safety for health care workers.
- Collect and ship145 of the 1,000 serum samples to the National Institutes of Health in Washington DC.
- Test and provide hepatitis B vaccine for all 200 health care workers at the Khenti Province Hospital.
- Oyu Togoi chooses FIRE to receive $15,000 for a hepatitis testing and vaccination project in Omnogovi Province.
- Train 100 health care workers on Medical Waste Management and Health Safety.
- Distribute 19,000 sharps containers (bio-hazard boxes for sharp
medical waste) to 21 hospitals and clinics in Dornod Province.
- Develop a Diabetes Prevention Program with the support of the Ministry of Health and Millennium Challenge Account – Mongolia (MCA-M).
- Send 450 pounds of donated hand knitted winter items to Mongolia, the final shipment of the Dulaan Project.
- Continue to develop the Board of Directors.
- Continue to write and apply for several grants for all of FIRE’s projects.
2010
- Hire Munkhajrgal Ayurzana as FIRE’s Medical Director.
- Hire an Administrative Officer for the office in Mongolia.
- Distribute 28,000 sharps containers (bio-hazard boxes for sharp medical waste) to 42 hospitals and clinics in 2 provinces of Mongolia.
- Receive approval from the Mongolian Ministry of Health Ethical Committee to ship 1,000 blood samples from Mongolia to the National Institutes of Health in Washington, DC.
- Complete training materials for the sharps container health care
worker training program.
- Train 400 of health care workers on Medical Waste Management and Health Safety.
- Complete a 2-week horse trip as a fundraiser with Wind Horse in northern Mongolia.
- The Dulaan Project receives 2,033 handmade items from knitters around the world.
- The Million Dollar Round Table Foundation chooses FIRE to receive $21,000 from for our work with Hepatitis in Mongolia.
- Complete several grant applications for the Hepatitis and Health Safety and Medical Waste Management Programs.
- Continue to develop the Board of Directors.
- Hire one NAU Sociology Masters level student for a spring semester internship.
2009
- Open an office in Ulaanbaatar
- Hire Narnygerel Erdenbelig as FIRE’s full time Medical Director in Mongolia and second employee.
- Sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mongolian Ministry of Health for cooperation on FIRE’s medical programs.
- Develop a long-term working relationship with the Western Pacific Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) to develop medical
training materials.
- Begin the development of our Waste Management and Health Safety Program and Hepatitis Program.
- One medical volunteer continues the development of our Orthopedic Training Program and distributes $30,000 worth of medical supplies to Trauma Hospital.
- 4 medical volunteers surveyed 300 health care workers in regards to Hepatitis B awareness and prevention, health safety and medical waste management, orthopedic awareness and treatment
- One medical volunteer trains hospice workers about palliative care.
- 4 clothing volunteers distribute 7 tons of winter clothing to 10,000 people.
- Aid distribution took place in 3 of Ulaanbaatar’s 6 districts.
- The Dulaan Project receives 5, handmade items from knitters around the world.
- Receive in-kind donations totaling over $50,000
- FIREWORKS 4, A Photography & Fine Art Show & Auction, held at the Flagstaff Photography Center in Flagstaff, AZ and on-line.
