Bringing electricty to Mongolian nomads

According to an article published by Bloomberg.com titled “How Mongolia Brought Nomads TV and Mobile Phones”, Mongolia is trying to improve the lives of people in its rural communities by working to spread electricity to outlying, non-urban areas. They have been able to implement this new program with growing success through the sale of portable, solar energy collection. The program has been able to increase sales and customer satisfaction by expanding technical support services and centers to areas more accessible to the Mongolian nomads.

In response to concerns about the cultural effects of the integration of these new technologies into the traditional nomadic lives of rural Mongolians, the article explains that “new technologies can make it easier for people to maintain traditional rural lifestyles, while adapting to a changing world.”
